

Lucy Bernidean “Berni” Brown, 82, of Columbus, died Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Friendship Village of Columbus where she was a resident. She was born in Charleston, WV, the daughter of the late Charles and Flossie Mae (Scott) Washington. She received degrees from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia in Story Telling & Drama in 1969 and West Virginia College of Graduate Studies Institute in 1974. She was a teacher of grades 1-9 at Kanawha County Schools in Charleston, West Virginia in 1967 and taught for many years as a Head Start teacher in Columbus, Ohio. She was an active member of Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Church where she was a wedding coordinator. She loved children and telling them stories on Sabbath at children’s story time. She volunteered in a number of programs. Berni’s passion was helping people. She had a willing and loving heart and would stand up for a cause she believed in. Always available to help friends with their families where ever she was needed. She always ended her conversations with “Well, I don’t know anything else to say so ‘Bye,” Katie, her best friend, who was more like a sister will deeply miss Berni. They made many journeys together, traveling to Alaska, Vermont and California to name a few. She is also survived by her loving niece Stephanie Hill and nephew Alexander Brown his wife Glenda and their daughter Ieshia, dear friends Jill and Winston Blankenship, Kit and Dan, Joyce and Ray Gibson, cousins and friends.
