

Lula M. Thomas age 93 passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at her residence. She was born September 24, 1923 in Lebanon Junction, KY to the late Roscoe and Lillie (Combs) Thurman. Lula graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She taught Home Economics at Madison Mills School and later did substitute teaching for Southwestern City Schools. Lula was a Charter member of Highland Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She was a member of Gideon International Auxiliary and a former executive board member of the Southern Baptist Convention for the State of Ohio. She had a tremendous zeal for carrying out the message of Christ around the world. Lula lived out her faith by serving meals at Stowe Mission as well as Faith Mission and working at the Columbus Literacy Council to help individuals learn English. She loved to sew, bake, cook, read, and never missed The Price Is Right. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Charles A. Thomas; brothers Arthur, Harold, Kelly, and Ray Thurman. Lula is survived by her children Rita Miller, David (Ellie) Thomas, and Randy Thomas; grandchildren Amber, Christina, Randy II, Jonathan, Stephanie, Joe, Allie, Marina, and Sienna; 4 great grandchildren; sister Thelma Travis; and many nieces and nephews. Lula’s family will receive friends 4-6 PM Sunday and 10-11 AM Monday at Highland Baptist Church 3460 Hoover Rd, Grove City where her funeral will be held 11 AM Monday. Pastor Peyton Hill officiating.
