Marcene Carol Phillips

Marcene Carol (Mounts) Phillips entered the Church Triumphant on March 7, 2016 following a two year battle with lung cancer. She was born to Paul and Dorothy Handshue on March 20, 1943 in Wadsworth, Ohio and graduated from Wadsworth High School in 1961. In January, 1962 she married her high school sweetheart, Donald R. Phillips. A lifelong Lutheran, they became active members of Faith Lutheran Church when they moved to Columbus in 1965, with both serving as youth group advisors and multiple leadership roles in the congregation. She was employed by William H. O’Neill and Associates, the Columbus Building Credit Bureau, the Ohio Restaurant Association, Trinity Lutheran Seminary, and Redeemer Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death in 1987 by her husband, Don; in 2015 by her daughter Lisa N. Price; and in 2011 by her second husband, Melvin A. Mounts. She is survived by her sons the Rev. Mitchell D. & Charisse Phillips of Indianapolis, Indiana and Brad & Misato In Phillips of Columbus, son-in-law the Rev. Mark David Price of Lodi, California, and seven grandchildren whom she adored: Hayley Phillips, Luke, Katie, Drew, and Nick Price, and Sachio and Hitoshi In Phillips; her sister Donna Sprunger, of Seville, Ohio and brother Mervin & Marilyn Handshue of Wadsworth, Ohio. Friends and family are invited to the service of Burial at 1:00pm with luncheon following on March 21 at Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Seville, Ohio – with visitation beginning at noon. A Celebration of Life will take place at 3:00pm on March 22 at Faith Lutheran Church, Whitehall, Ohio with a dinner following. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Seminary, or Ohio Health Hospice.
