Margot Hoffman Miefert, whose love of life brought smiles to others and whose own smile instantly lit up any room, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, in her hometown of Columbus, Ohio with her family gathered around her. She was 89.
Margot was a talented professional whose promotion of dental health spanned four decades as a hygienist, manager, and educator. She also freely gave of her time and talents to her church and community, but she took greatest pleasure from friends and family, which she showered with love and encouragement as a wife, mom, grandma, and “Queen.” Always smiling and fully immersed in connecting with people, she viewed life with awe and excitement—peppered with a touch of fun and mischief—and was always quick with a compliment for others.
Margot Anne Hoffman was born May 26, 1936, the oldest child of George P. and Thelma A. (Rheam) Hoffman. After her graduation from North High School in 1954, she earned her Bachelor of Science in education and her graduate certification as a dental hygienist, both at The Ohio State University, where she also served as a clinical instructor in the College of Dentistry. She worked for many years for the Union County Health Department, where she initiated and supervised an annual fluoride education program for hundreds of third and fourth graders. Countless more Ohioans smiled more brightly thanks to her work over the years as a hygienist at dental practices in central Ohio.
Romance smiled on Margot and Dr. William (Bill) Gerhardt Miefert III, DDS and they married on August 13, 1960, beginning a fifty-three-year love affair with family and service. They raised three beautiful daughters, Michelle, Marlena, and Maria, in Marysville, Ohio before moving to Mansfield. Margot served as an elected deacon, first at First Presbyterian Church in Marysville and later at First Presbyterian Church in Mansfield where her warmth and skills at hospitality, fundraising, and small group leadership were cherished. She also was active in school life, serving as a room mom, vice-president of the local parent-teacher organization, and reading program volunteer. She and Bill remained steadfast members of the Mansfield community until Bill’s death in 2013. “Queen Margot” returned to Columbus where she spent her final years reveling in family, friendships, and Buckeye football. Now she is dancing with Bill once more and wanting her loved ones to know that she is always near, cheering them on.
In addition to her daughters, all of whom live in Columbus, Margot is survived by her sister Carole Hoffman of Columbus, son-in-law Bob Benschneider, granddaughters Brittany L. Miefert and Ava L. Benschneider, and nieces Rhonda Nooe of Louisville, KY and Robin Smith of Columbus, OH.
Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Friday December 19th, 2025 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington. Ohio 43221, where a Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Saturday, December 20, 2025.
