When Mark and I built our home at Farlyn Woods we kept one question central in our minds - how can we create the best home to entertain our friends and family? He loved nothing more than playing cards and drinking a good beer with the people he loved the most.
That's how I will remember him. Stripped down to his white t-shirt, leaning over a table, prepped to compete hard in our favorite card game.
On Friday, November 29th, 2019, Mark David Farrand passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully in our home, at the age of 40. He had spent the day before doing what he loved the most - hosting our family and friends for Thanksgiving. He played with our two beautiful children, spent time with his parents, Keith and Sonya, laughed with friends and family, and kissed me goodnight.
Mark was passionate about many things. He was an avid Purdue fan and a lifelong Boilermaker, having graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2003. He knew by age 8 that he wanted to be an engineer in the automotive industry and he followed that dream to Roush Technologies, Ford Motor Company, and lastly to Honda as an NVH Vehicle Research Engineer.
He never missed an opportunity to spend time with family, doing the things they loved. He and his dad traveled to the NCAA wrestling tournament each March, along with two of their friends who had all coached Mark in wrestling. He loved attending the Indy 500 with his cousins, watching Formula 1 or football on the weekend, and hosting the annual summer party on Morse Lake with his friends and family.
His friends would say that they have met very few more loyal and committed people. He was the heartbeat and emotional support to many of his groups of friends, whether the team he worked with at Honda, the close-knit group of friends from his high school, Hamilton Heights, or his Brews and Bros friends who met monthly to geek out about beer. Mark may have seemed reserved but he loved fiercely and would do anything for his friends and family.
Mark and I met in 2011, were married in 2013, and spent nearly every day together building a life, a home, and a family. He was my rock through our journey to have our children. In 2017 we welcomed our daughter, Guinevere Marie. Mark was one of the most amazing fathers I have ever seen and I was lucky to parent with him. Changing Guinevere's diaper in the hospital was the first diaper he'd ever changed, but he was a natural. That little girl had him wrapped around her finger from minute one and he would have done anything for her.
Our son, Johnathan Keith, was born in January of 2019 and again Mark was the proudest father. He was the kind of dad who gets down on the floor to play with his kids, who read Guinevere three stories every night, and who would walk the floor for hours just to comfort either of them if they didn't feel well. Through the sleepless nights and the "man-to-man defense" of parenting two kiddos, we were a team, every day.
Above all, we were a team. Every single day.
Without question, we were the loves of each other's lives. We complemented each other perfectly - he kept me grounded and I brought him onto the dance floor. I have not met another person with the amazing capacity to love so selflessly. He would literally do anything for a friend and wanted no recognition. He was my biggest supporter and my proudest cheerleader, my love, my best friend and my soulmate.
Our hearts are broken as we mourn the loss of a husband, a dad, a son, a brother, a friend, a nephew, a cousin, a colleague who meant so much to all of us. He was many things to many people but one thing he will never be is forgotten.
Mark is now and will forever be greatly missed by his wife Bevin Lynch Farrand, the love of his life, and their two children, Guinevere Marie (2) and Johnathan Keith (10 months), his parents Keith and Sonya, his two brothers, Brinton (Claire) Farrand of Cicero, Indiana and Bruce Farrand of Bloomington, Indiana. He has numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends in the Indianapolis, Cicero, and Delaware/Columbus Ohio areas, as well as across the country.
Family will receive friends from Noon to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2019, with a memorial service at 2pm at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221.
A Celebration of Mark's Life will follow immediately at The Daily Growler at 2812 Fishinger Rd, Upper Arlington, OH 43221.
