

Born September 28, 1932, Marion, Crittenden County, Kentucky, son of Claude Mark Mahan and Clara Edwin Belt Mahan who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by sister Pauline Mahan Wigginton and brother Paul E. Mahan. Survived by Martha Evaline Mahan, wife of 62 years and sons Mark, Jr. (Barbara) and Michael and grandson Philip Alexander November. Nephews and nieces also survive him.
He attended Marion (KY) public schools and graduated in 1951.
Mark served four years of active duty in the United State Air Force as an air traffic controller. He was posted to Lackland AFB, TX; Keesler AFB, MS; Yuma AFB, AZ; Luke AFB, AZ; Sewart AFB, TN; and Templehof AFB, Berlin. He spent four years in the USAF Active Reserve continuing his experience with Radar Landing Control. He earned BS and MS degrees from Murray State University. He did further graduate work at University of California, Riverside. After teaching junior high and high school math for four years, he finished his professional career in college textbook sales and sales management for Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston, MA.
Mark was a Kentucky Colonel and held memberships in Sons of the American Revolution (Past President of The Benjamin Franklin Chapter, Columbus, OH) and Sons of Confederate Veterans, (Brig. Gen. Roswell S. Ripley, Camp 1535, Worthington, OH.) Member of The American Legion Post 239, Worthington, OH. Mark was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Social Fraternity and Kappa Delta Pi, Honorary Education Fraternity. Mark was a member of The National Rifle Association. He served as a trustee of the Program 60 Organization, College of Continuing Education, The Ohio State University. He was on the Board of Trustees of the Ohio Chapter, 8th Air Force Historical Society.
He had the privilege of making one of the Honor Flight Trips to Washington, D.C., spending the day at the World War II Memorial, The Iwo Jima Marine Corp Memorial, The Korean War Memorial, The U.S. Air Force Memorial, The Viet Nam Memorial and viewing the changing of the guard at The Tomb of the Unknowns.
His main avocation was Genealogy and he spent many hours researching his family tree and writing the history of his family.
He will be buried in Mapleview Cemetery, Marion, Kentucky.
