

Martha Unverzagt Grimm, age 103, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016 in Columbus, Ohio. She was born on September 9, 1912 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late George and Emma (Eberle) Unverzagt. Martha earned a Bachelor Degree in Education from Capital University in Columbus. She was honored at Capital University as Homecoming Queen, the second year the University had a homecoming court. After graduation, she returned home to Pittsburgh where she taught French at a local high school. She met and married J. Paul Riesmeyer, and together they celebrated nearly 50 years of marriage until his death in 1985. Martha reconnected and fell in love with a former Capital University classmate, Hilmar Grimm, with whom she celebrated 10 years of marriage before his death in 1996. Martha and Hilmar travelled the world and enjoyed their golden years together. Throughout her life, Martha was a confirmed member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Pittsburgh and then Christ Lutheran Church in Bexley, OH. She was a benefactor to Capital University and volunteered at a Pittsburgh rehabilitation hospital. Martha spent the last 10 years of her life as a resident of Kensington Place in Columbus, and enjoyed her friends both old and new. She joins in Heaven her parents; husbands, Paul and Hilmar; daughter, Linda; brother, Walter, and great-grandson, Frederick Michael Grimm. She is survived by her step-sons, Richard (Norma) Grimm and Frederick (Dawn) Grimm; grandchildren, Barbara (Bob) Actis, John (Michelle) Grimm, Mark (LeAnn) Grimm, Melanie Grimm, and Michael (Shabonne) Grimm; great-grandchildren, Michael R. Grimm, Jessica Grimm, Matthew Grimm, Natasya Barry, and Emily Grimm. Family will receive friends 10 am to noon Friday, May 27, 2016 at Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., where the funeral service will begin at 12 noon. Pastor Timothy Iseringhausen and Rev. Thomas Wolfe co-officiating. Graveside service will be held at 1pm Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Homewood Cemetery, 1599 Dallas Ave. Pittsburgh. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 2314 E Main St, Columbus, OH 43209 or to Capital University (Hilmar Grimm History Scholarship), 2199 E.
