

Marvin Augustus Pate, Jr. a devoted papa, proud uncle, bonus grandfather, and beloved member of our family, passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 21, 2023 at the age of 84. Marvin was a beacon of love, joy, and laughter throughout his remarkable life leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on January 4, 1939 at University Hospital in Columbus, Marvin embarked on a journey of lifelong love when he met the love of his life, Keni Garver, whose relationship lasted over 50 years. Together, they built a foundation of unwavering devotion and shared countless cherished moments, creating a legacy of love and commitment that will inspire generations to come.
In his youth, Marvin proudly joined the Air Force and served as a valiant airman during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he began a fulfilling career with Anheuser-Busch where he dedicated an astounding 29 years of his life.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Marvin possessed a natural talent as a barber, enjoyed cooking, tailgating at OSU Football games (GO OSU!), watching golf, football, gardening, and cartoons…Marvin’s ability to bring joy and laughter to those around him was truly infectious. His unmistakable laugh had a way of brightening even the gloomiest of days.
Marvin Augustus Pate, Jr. was more than the sum of his achievements; he was a kind, compassionate, and a loving soul. He had an extraordinary capacity to make others feel valued and loved. His generosity knew no bounds. Whether it was lending an ear, offering a helping hand, or simply sharing a heartfelt laugh, Marvin enriched the lives of those who were fortunate to have known him.
Marvin is preceded in death by his partner Kenneth (Keni) Garver, parents Marvin and Mary (Clark) Pate Sr., siblings Kenneth Charles Pate, William Richard Pate, Precious Rene Smith (Leslie Theodore Smith), Robert Handy Pate, and nephew Dylan Smith. Marvin is survived by his son Christian Balbierer, bonus granddaughter Rory Walberg, aunt Mary Jane Ward, sisters in law Sally (Phil) Louden, Kathy (David) Zimmerman, Jennifer (Wayne) Goodfellow, Wenifreda (Winnie) Pate, and several cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and beloved friends.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 30th, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Temple Beth Shalom, 5089 Johnstown Rd. New Albany, OH 43054. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Rd. Newark, OH 43055. Arrangements entrusted to Schoedinger East.
