Mary Catherine 'Cat' Hackett

Mary Catherine “Cat” Hackett, passed away Tuesday September 29, 2015 in the loving presence of family and friends. Born October 31, 1958 in Shawinigan Falls, Quebec (Canada), she spent most of her life in Columbus, Ohio.

She was an outdoor enthusiast who loved to golf, snow ski and sail. She was a member of Columbus Country Club and Scioto Country Club, and a former member of Leatherlips Yacht Club. A world traveler, she had the wonderful opportunity to visit many countries including such far places such as China, Russia, Africa, Australia, and several countries in Europe.

Active in her community, she devoted her life to service. She was a founding member of the UA912 and ran for Central Committee in 2014. She served as past president of the Buckeye Ranch Service Board and the Dublin Women’s club. She also served on the Columbus Museum of Art Women’s Service Board and the Capital University Alumni Association. A graduate of Capital, she earned her B.A. in History, was an avid reader and life-long learner.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Bankiewicz, sister, Marie-Michelle Bankiewicz-Elting, mother-in-law, Barbara Ann Hackett and father-in-law John H. Hackett. She is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, Mike Hackett, father Michael C. Bankiewicz, sister, Ellen Neutzling(Frank), brother-in-law John Hackett (Julie) nephews, AJ Hackett, Frank, Andrew and Robert Neutzling, Michael and Christopher Elting and niece April Elting, many aunts, uncles, cousins, a host of dear friends and her beloved cats, Cosmo, Liberty Bell and Hannah.

The family would like to thank the staff on the 20th floor of The James for their exceptional care and compassion, her nursing angels.. We will receive guests Friday, October 2, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Schoedinger Funeral Home, 6699 N. High Street in Worthington.

Funeral Service at 9:30 a.m. Saturday October 3, 2015, at the New Albany United Methodist Church, 20 3rd St, New Albany, OH 43054. Pastor Frank Luchsinger officiating.
