Mary Loneta (Hickey) Prier, age 38, of Blacklick, Ohio, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Monday, March 21, 2022. She was born in Dayton, Ohio on November 5, 1983, to her parents Thomas and Edna (Johnson) Hickey.
Mary was a 2002 graduate of Chaminade-Julienne High School. After high school, Mary attended the University of Dayton, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics in 2006, then continued her education at the Ohio State University, where she obtained her Master's degree in Statistics in 2008.
Mary grew up playing many sports and continued to be an excellent athlete into adulthood. She was active at St. Anthony Parish in Dayton, Ohio as a child and she loved family dinners, especially with her extended family and cousins. As an adult, Mary continued to look forward to large family gatherings with her siblings and their families as well as her husband, Jon's family.
Mary always excelled at whatever she did, be it school, sports, or work. She constantly looked for ways to be better. But Mary really found her calling pouring her love and attention into her four young children. Mary often wanted nothing more then to sit down and read a book with her kids, which they loved. Mary was willing to do anything and everything for them. Mary worked part-time so that she could spend as much time as possible at home with her kids before they were school-aged. She was fun and energetic, hauling children to the zoo, the park, or beach vacations. Mary continued to put all her effort into improving the lives of her family, even while fighting cancer for years. Mary's impact on her husband and children will last far beyond the years that she spent with them.
Mary's beautiful brown eyes, vibrant smile, and kind personality made others gravitate towards her. Mary was active at St. Matthew Parish in Gahanna, Ohio. She loved Eucharistic Adoration and participated in a regular Rosary group with other moms from St. Matthew. Mary developed many strong friendships and positively impacted everyone around her.
Mary endured many health-related hardships associated with cancer, but despite that, she always recognized how blessed she was. She was always able to find joy in her family. Mary's family and friends rallied around her to lift her up when she needed help, and Mary deeply appreciated that blessing. Mary did more in her relatively short 38 years than many do with much more time.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 12 years, Jonathan Prier; their four children, Benjamin, Rachel, Joshua, and Luke Prier; her parents, Tom and Edna Hickey; siblings, Amy (Frank) Castellano and Bart (Jessica) Hickey; and a large extended family.
Visitation will be held from 4-8pm on Friday, March 25, 2022 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST FUNERAL HOME, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, Ohio, 43230. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10am on Saturday, March 26, at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church, 807 Havens Corners Rd., Gahanna. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
