

Melissa B. Moreen, 62, of Columbus, Ohio passed away at the First Community Village on Friday morning April 15, 2011 with her loving husband by her side.
Melissa was born in Rochester, NY on July 18, 1948 to the late M. Douglas and Vivian (Barlie) Blair. She graduated from Harrison High School in Colorado Springs, CO class ‘66. She then attended and graduated from De Pauw University in Green Castle IN; class of ‘70 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. On June 18, 1971 she married the love of her life Mr. Robert I. Moreen in Washington DC and they shared over 39 years together. Melissa moved to Robert’s hometown of Columbus where she started her career as a teacher in the Columbus City Schools System, retiring in 2000 after 29 years of dedicated service. Melissa was a member of the First Community Church for over 37 years, and a faithful member of the church Chancel Choir alto section and Chamber Singers. She gave many loving hours as a Docent at the Columbus Zoo, and enjoyed her membership of the Alpha Theta teacher’s honorary. Melissa was an avid bridge player and crafter, taking on many different projects for church, school, and for family. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends abroad. However, what brought her the most joy was her family. Watching and guiding Katy, her daughter, grow up and becoming a wonderful young lady was everything to her. Melissa touched hundreds of young people as a teacher during her career and many more with her faith and commitment to her church. She will be missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Columbus Zoo Docent Association or to the First Community Church Friends of Music.
Along with Melissa’s parents she is preceded in death by her twin infant sons Jonathan and Gregory Moreen.
Melissa is survived by her loving Husband, Robert I. Moreen and her beloved daughter, Katy Moreen. She is also survived by nephew, Robert Stevens
Services will be held at the First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd, Upper Arlington on Saturday April 30, 2011 at 11:00am with a reception to follow at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Upper Arlington.
