He was born in New Castle, Indiana on May 8, 1944 to the late Walter Leon and Elizabeth Erickson Goudy. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Chris Graves; sister, Kris (Jack) Cheshire; and brother, Timothy (Carol Hicks) Goudy; brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and close friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Patrick and Kevin.
He was a proud and active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 41 years. The family would like to thank those members that visited him and brought an AA meeting to him in the care center.
After graduating from Mifflin High School in 1962, Michael served in the US Army in Germany as a three-star general’s guard and an MP. He was very proud to have served.
Using the GI Bill, Michael received his undergraduate degree in Industrial Design from The Ohio State University and worked as a graphic designer for the first half of his work life, designing logos, brochures, and ads for central Ohio companies including Riverside Hospital, CompuServe, Chemical Abstracts, Ohio Wesleyan University, the State of Ohio and many others. After receiving a Master’s degree from University of Dayton, Michael became a drug and alcohol counselor, paying forward what he gained from his sobriety.
He loved cars and working on the house. His design sense showed through everything he did from detailing his car to a whole-house remodel.
Michael was a great husband, brother and friend. He will be sorely missed.
