Michael “Mugs” McGovern

Michael, “Mugs” McGovern, age 64, died April 29, 2023, after a courageous battle against COVID. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Anne McGovern and siblings Katherine, Molly, Sean and Tim.

He is survived by his wife, Becky; his daughter, Kelly; and his son, Sean. Mugs was born in Madrid, Spain while his father was stationed at Torrejon Air Force Base. He was from an Air Force family and after graduating from Damian High School in Hawaii, where he was the top graduate and lettered in football, soccer, basketball and baseball, he chose to attend the Air Force Academy graduating in 1981. He proudly served in the Air Force for 20 years retiring in 2001.

Mugs was a loving father and husband. Nothing made him happier than attending Kelly and Sean’s soccer, basketball, softball, baseball games and golf matches. He was a patient coach and shared his love of sports with his children.

Visitation will be held Sunday, May 21, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. with a service to follow at the Schoedinger Northwest, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus Ohio.
