

A lifelong resident of Columbus, Mike attended Holy Rosary School and High School where he excelled in his studies and basketball. He was a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the Ohio State University Law School. A stockbroker for over 40 years, Mike started his career with Paine Webber and remained with the firm through its various corporate transformations. He was active in numerous professional, religious, and volunteer organizations throughout his life. A voracious reader, Mike loved to travel and was a devoted Domer, championing all things related to his beloved Alma Mater. But his greatest pride and joy was reserved for his children and family. A man of deep faith, Mike was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church parish for over 60 years and attended daily Mass until his declining health intervened.
He is survived by his wife Jo Ann; his children Michael, Jr. (Sallie) of Concord, CA, Trish of Lakewood, OH, Molly Venker (Jim) of Kirkwood, MO, Patrick (fiancée Mary Warrington) of Henderson, NV, Katie MacLennan (Mike) of East Moline, IL, Peter (Jennifer) of Chicago, IL and Megan of Chicago, IL; Jo Ann's children Jonathan Vance of Raleigh, NC and Andrew (Ruedee) Vance of Ann Arbor, MI; his eleven grandchildren Margaret, Morgan, Stephen, Peter, Matthew (Brittney), Daniel, Moira, Caitlin, Kiernan, Sean Clare and Riley; local nieces and nephews Mary Jeanne, James, Garrett, Daniel, Kelley and Tim; and many friends and extended family. Preceded in death by his parents, his brother James E. Scanlon, and his former wife Mary Pat Frommeyer Scanlon, the mother of his seven children.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on June 21 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 1899 McCoy Road, Columbus, OH. Friends may visit with the family in the St. Andrew Church vestibule starting at 10 a.m. prior to the Funeral Mass. He will be interred at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, IN. Private burial. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the University of Notre Dame. Please direct your gift to the ND Fund in memory of Michael C. Scanlon.
