

Miller Stauch Makey died January 20, 2012 at 93 years of age. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Geraldine (Kiene) Makey, his father Herman O. Makey, his mother Clara Daisy Isabella (Stauch) Makey, his brothers Herman O. Makey, Jr. and Thomas Makey, his sisters Clara Wieder, and Ruth Epperson. He is survived by his sister Sarah Jane Butler of Fort Wayne, Indiana, his son Miller S. Makey, Jr. of Dayton, Ohio,daughter Cynthia Anne Little of Birmingham, Alabama, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Miller served as a commissioned officer in the US Army Medical Corp. during WWII in France and Belgium. He was a graduate of Indiana University and The Ohio State University School of Social Administration. Upon completion of college he became a certified psychiatric Social Worker and specialized in Penology and Corrections. He then served as Chief of Probation Officer for the city of Columbus; Assistant of Chief of Ohio Bureau of Probation and Parole;Administrative Assistant in Ohio Division of Forensic Psychiatry; Superintendent of Chillicothe Treatment Center which provided in-house Psychiatric treatment for selected prisoners in Ohio prisons. Prior to his retirement from the State of Ohio in 1982, he was director of Social Services at the Orient Developmental Center at Orient Ohio. For about four years he worked with a small group of Ohio Directors of the Social Work departments and agencies toward obtaining licensure of Social Workers in Ohio. Miller was president of the American Kitefliers Association 1984 and 1985 and flew kites all over the world. Memorial service will be held on Friday, January 27th 4pm at Westminster Thurber Chapel. In lieu of flowers friends may contribute to their local hospice provider.
