

Mitchell John Mattoon, 45, of Columbus, Ohio and formerly of Springfield, Ohio and Ransomville, New York, died unexpectedly at his home Tuesday, June 14, 2011. He was born August 12, 1965 in Lewiston, NY to Mildred and the late Delbert Mattoon. Mitchell grew up in Ransomville, New York the youngest of five children. As child and young man, Mitchell was adventurous and mischievous. He loved to hunt, fish, boat, and be outdoors, especially with his brother, Mike. Mitchell told such amazing stories of the fishing trips he, Mike, and brother-in-law, Dennis used to take. Mitchell enjoyed spending time with his children and was very proud of his daughter, Brittney. They played basketball, fished, and spent every holiday cooking the meal together. Mitchell was employed by Ernst for many years in Georgia before moving to Springfield, Ohio and most recently to Columbus, Ohio. He loved his job and everyone with whom he worked. Mitchell will be remembered for so many attributes and especially for his big heart, compassionate personality, and contagious smile. Mitchell believed that little blessings were big blessings. In addition to his father, Mitchell was preceded in death by his older brother, Michael Mattoon. Mitchell will be missed by his daughter, Brittney Parkison; step-children, Karlton and Alisha Parkison; mother, Mildred Mattoon; sisters, Rene (Joseph) Zafuto, Della (Dennis) Maines; and Lonna (Thomas) Reinbird; step-granddaughters, Jaela and Laela; several nieces and nephews who loved him very much; and his best friend, Jeff Baker. Private family services were held at Schoedinger Midtown Chapel, Columbus, Ohio (614) 224-6105. Contributions may be made in Mitchell’s memory to a local homeless shelter or soup kitchen of donor’s choice.
