

Norma Johns Wuichet, age 100, formerly of Upper Arlington, died Saturday, August 18, 2012, at The Forum at Knightsbridge. She was born October 7, 1911 in Bantam, Ohio, the only child of Donnie L. and Mamie Miller Johns, who preceded her in death. Norma graduated from Batavia (Ohio) High School in 1930, where she was editor of the high school year book and Salutatorian of her senior class. Music was an important part of her early life. She studied both piano and pipe organ and won a vocal competition. She also enjoyed writing, and in her later years participated in Upper Arlington senior theatre activities. She graduated with a B.S. in Education from Ohio State University in 1934, where she was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and the Browning Society. She taught third grade at Canal Winchester Elementary School from 1934-39 and first grade at Barrington Elementary School in Upper Arlington from 1942-46. She married John W. Wuichet, Jr. on April 7, 1939, and they were married almost 65 years, until his death in 2004. She was a member of the Batavia High School Alumni Society, Clermont County Genealogical Society, and the Old Bethel M.E. Church and Cemetery Society. As a result of her genealogical research on the Johns family, Norma was designated as one of the “First Families” of Clermont County. A member of Trinity United Methodist Church for many years, she served on their Administrative Board. She was a member of the OSU Presidents Club and Alumni Association, and the Upper Arlington Historical Society. Norma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Wuichet Riechel and Donald C. Riechel, two nieces, and four nephews.
