

Patricia A. Payton, 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 6, 2025, surrounded by her two daughters. Known lovingly as “Patty” by her family and friends, she was born in Sandusky on August 1, 1943, to the late Ralph and Alice (Paul) Overmyer. Patty was raised in Lindsey, Ohio, where she developed a lifelong love of sports, Ohio State athletics, the Girl Scouts, and theater.
A 1961 graduate of Fremont Ross High School, Patty went on to attend Kent State University, where her vibrant spirit earned her the nickname “The Lindsey Flash.” After two years at Kent State, she moved to Washington, D.C., to begin her professional career with the FBI.
Patty later returned to Ohio, settling in Toledo and working for CNA Insurance. In 1988, she moved to Columbus and continued her career with CNA, ultimately retiring in 2002 after nearly 30 years of service. She later joined Overmyer Hall Associates, where she worked until her second retirement in 2010.
Patty led an active and adventurous life. Her many hobbies included skiing, racquetball, bowling, golf, and fly fishing. She was an avid reader, particularly enjoying the works of James Patterson and Vince Flynn. She was also a passionate Ohio State Buckeyes fan and found great joy traveling across the country with her daughters and friends to cheer on her team. She explored all but four of the 50 states, often seeking out the beauty of America’s National Parks.
A devoted volunteer with Columbus parks, Patty cherished time spent outdoors, especially in her garden. she was known for her generosity, consistently donating to multiple charities such as the Humane Society, Wounded Warriors, the Red Cross, and the National Parks.
Patty was preceded in death by her brother, David Overmyer, and her beloved partner of more than 18 years, Fred Lamkin. She will be deeply missed by her loving daughters, Kathryn (Tim) Robideau and Kim White; grandchildren, Max Robideau, Payton Robideau, and Ezekiel Holden; and her brother, Paul (Cheryl) Overmyer.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025, followed by a Celebration of Life reception from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Schoedinger Northwest, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221. Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite Buckeye attire in honor of Patty’s lifelong fandom.
