I first met Patrick in the mid 1970s and was immediately struck my his range of interests and penetrating insight, ranging from medieval literature to science fiction and contemporary music. It was a joy to hear him discuss these and many more topics in depth. We became close friends during that time, and I was flattered to serve as best man at his wedding and to give piano lessons to his daughter when she was a little girl.  We are all better people for having known him.  He is sorely missed- may he rest in peace.

Pat was two years behind me at Grandview, and we were teammates on the school Chess squad. He played a swashbuckling, take-no-prisoners style game, and even beat our coach, Mr. Davis.

Many years later, we were reacquainted on Facebook and shared many conversations; from the mind-warping influence of Mad Magazine, to the hidden meanings in Beowulf. 
I also enjoyed his banter and burning up the bandwiths by mental fencing with fellow Bobcat Dave Culp.

I will miss those intellectual exchanges, but am at least somewhat comforted knowing that Pat is in a place where he finally DOES know all the answers.

I worked with Patrick through the 1990s. He was more than a colleague – he also was a friend. Patrick always was a “go-to” guy when I faced some conundrum involving NDT equations or authors going rogue with technical descriptions. He was incredible at finding relevant information in the handbooks and providing sage advice. 

Patrick made work life interesting. When you went to him for help, you always knew you would get the answers you needed, but you had to leave a little extra time for a relevant (or sometimes irrelevant) tidbit on the subject, a personal story, or a joke. He loved his job and it showed.

He also loved his family. He would talk about Kathy, Margaret, and Brendan all the time.  He was extremely proud of the accomplishments of his children, both large and small, at all stages of life.  He was a role model for anyone who wanted to be successful at work, in the community, and at home.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

I worked with and for Patrick as a technical writer and editor at Materials Evaluation, a publication of ASNT. Patrick truly taught me how to write and taught me how to edit as well. He was always direct, but he was honest and encouraging. One of the best ways to learn is to learn how to handle both criticism and compliments. When Patrick gave you a compliment, you know he meant it. He was not one to offer criticism, unless it was truly earned. He was one of the best mentors a young professional could ever have, and he truly had your back when you worked alongside him. He will be sorely missed. Though I have not worked with him for years, I had reconnected with him on Facebook. I enjoyed the intensity with which he would have posts about Anita O. Day and his other interests. He had a unique sense of humor and you truly had the sense of being amongst a great mind when you were with him. We lost a great mind, but it will be heaven's great gain.

Eons ago, Patrick and I shared the same office as graduate students in the OSU English Dept. We reconnected a few years ago through social media. He was a wonderful person, and I remember him with great fondness. My deepest condolences to his family. Sincerely, Ann Matheson

I regret that I am not writing to Pat instead of about him. I enjoyed becoming reacquainted with him after many years at the mini reunion this past fall, when he made a point of exchanging email addresses (which neither of us put to use, unfortunately). He and I grew up together on the same street, attending the same schools, and sitting through Latin classes, and playing board games. I can still see the perplexed look on his face as I made one unusual (aka dumb) move after another in what was probably our only chess game. (John Tilley was a better opponent for him.) Pat, as others surely noticed, was a very intelligent fellow with a sense of humor to match his intelligence. He possessed an active and creative mind and my memory of his Epic of Kush story frequently emerges when reading about Middle Eastern issues.
When my mother passed away fifteen years ago, I was touched that Pat was one of my friends who attended the service. We shared a laugh when I initially struggled to recognize the guy with the very noticeable white beard. Then we did our best to catch up with each others’ lives during the brief time available. I was not surprised when he explained how his job at editing the non-destructive testing testing publications enabled him to become an expert on the subject, having read so much about it.
I am very glad to know that Pat had married and become a dad and granddad as part of a loving family. May your sorrow at his passing be tempered by the knowledge of a life well-lived and the memories of the good times.

At our last high school mini reunion, Patrick sought me out to ask a specific question to me about music performance and remembering lots of lyrics while playing bass. I had not a clue as to how I'd been able to do it for 50 years, but we talked at some length about that process. We also shared a few laughs on Facebook over the years. As far as I was concerned, he was always the smartest guy in the room and I always enjoyed his company. Our conversations had substance, which I find increasingly hard to find these days. He was an important part of the Grandview Heights Class on 1969 and his loss creates the kind of vacuum that can't be filled.

I graduated five years behind Patrick at GHHS.  I never met him, and knew him only from his contributions on Facebook.  I appreciated his sense of humor and his Plonsky art postings; I could tell that we would have gotten along well.  I'm sorry to hear that he is gone.  My condolences to his family and friends.

Love from your TM Family purchased the Fireside Basket - Blue, Yellow and White for the family of Patrick Moore.

I remember playing "Trivial Pursuit" with Kathy and Patrick many years ago.  Not a wise decision on my part --- they both blew me into the weeds!  Patrick was always a formidable intellect and an excellent teacher.  He could pull together so many disciplines.  Always willing to share his knowledge and always interesting.  I think he loved being a part of our ASNT family and we certainly loved him right back.  I've enjoyed his insight and perspective for more than 30 years and will miss him immensely.

Patrick and I grew up together on Mulford Rd. We spent four years in Latin classes together and I always enjoyed his sense of humor and his inclusiveness. I will miss his insight and his presence at our reunions. The world was a better place with him around.
