Penny S. Manahan, age 72, died peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2015 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. She was a resident at Oakleaf Village in Columbus Penny was born February 23, 1943, in Pleasant City, Ohio, the daughter of Albert and Edna Spurrier. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Penny was born and raised in the country but always heard the call of the big city. She finally relocated to Columbus, Ohio in the early 90's. Penny trained in computer programming but made her career as a bookkeeper, payroll administrator and office manager. She retired from the corporate offices of Once Upon A Child in 2004. Friends and family were Penny's delight; she never met a stranger. Penny loved talking, crocheting, and making crafts such as jewelry and flower arranging. She also loved to sing and was often heard singing church hymns while working around the house. Penny's true passion was travel, especially to be near the ocean. She often joked that if she had been taller and a man she would have chosen to be a long distance truck driver. Penny will be remembered for her fighting spirit; no matter what life gave her she found a way to overcome it and keep going. Her children will remember her sense of humor, her drive for hard work and the life lessons she taught them - do good for others, be honest, and smile.
