

Peter George Margaritis, 74, of Reynoldsburg, OH passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 11, 2023 at home. Peter was born a Hoosier in 1949 in Gary, IN, but claimed he bled scarlet and grey for his Buckeyes from birth. Preceded in death by his parents and beloved “Granny Helen”. Survived by his bride of more than 35 years, Melinda; children, Jennine, Matthew, Paul Franken, and Stephanie (Jeremy) Darnell; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Chris (Maria); sisters, Mary and Elena; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends and American Legion brothers and sisters. Peter graduated from The Ohio State University and served proudly in the U.S. Navy and Reserves for 22 years. Active in the American Legion, Peter has served as Post 798 and 12th District Commander, historian, and adjutant. Peter coordinated the ASBP military blood drives in Central Ohio for the war in Afghanistan and was recognized as the 2019 12th District Legionnaire of the Year. A military history expert, Peter realized his lifelong dream of becoming a published author of multiple books in recent years. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 pm Wednesday, December 27th at Schoedinger East, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., where the funeral service will begin at 10:30 am Thursday, December 28th with Fr. James Gardikes officiating. Interment to follow at Silent Home Cemetery in Reynoldsburg with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy and his American Legion brothers. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s memory to American Legion Post 798 or Reynoldsburg Helping Hands Food Pantry.
