My deepest sympathies to the Scott  family.  Very saddened by the news.  Lots of fun growing up together and walking home from school together.  A bunch of us were even hit by a car once.  Remember anyone?  I won't forget you Pete.

My sincere sympathies to Pat and her family. The news of Pete's death has rocked the swim community in the Mansfield area. 
   My fondest memories of Pete, of course, were watching him dive. As a judge, I had the privilege of seeing his strength and agility thrown into the most graceful, artistic moves a kid in a Speedo could muster. I was there, in Bowling Green, when he got 10's on his back dive at the Regional YMCA Championships. My son, Brian, was 8 yrs old at the time and too young to appreciate what he saw; but over the years, I kept reminding him of that day & to picture that perfect back dive in his mind when he competed.
   Pete is a legend.

Pete was such a wonderful friend and human being. We will remember his smiling face, love and sense of humor always.....

My favorite memory is seeing Pete just days before he passed on...smiling and happy.  That is the face I will remember.  Prayers of peace...

Pete was an amazing swimming/diving coach who pushed us to be our best; and taught us to win...he was a positive influence on so many.

I grew up with Peter and am at a loss as to what to say.  I am in shock.  The entire Scott family was like a second family to me, 5 houses on down at 342 Davis Road.  I love them all very much: Mr. and Mrs. Scott, Dave, Cindy, Pete and of course Pam, my closest friend ever.  We spent so much great, fun time together and my memories of hanging out with Peter make me smile broadly (and even giggle a little) and the fact that he is gone brings great sadness to me.  Peter was so damn funny!   So smart!  And if you ever saw him dive,  consider yourself very lucky -- it was a beautiful sight.  I will never forget hanging out with Pete, Lynne F., David G., Matt C. and Pam  (and many, many others) on many an occasion and having such a blast!  Peter had such a grace about him, yet was wickedly funny at the same time, and always kind to me.  I am very sad I cannot be there today.  My sincerest condolonces go out to Keith, Pat, David, Cindy and Pam and all of Pete's friends.  My spirit is with you all, today and always, and Peter's spirit will live on forever inside me and will always hover around me and those whose lives he touched forever.

I knew Peter in high school. He was funny, carefree, determined in swimming and an all around great person. My prayers go out to his partner and family. Life is short and needs to be lived and shared with all of those we know and love...I know that Peter did that. May he be at peace and his loved ones find peace in his passing.

I worked with Peter at CompuServe (back in 1994), and he was one of the first people I recall working with outside my immediate group. He was working on CompuServe magazine, selling ad space, and I had come from the publishing business and we used to challenge ourselves thinking about ways to expand the magazine's advertising revenue. During and between meetings I learned it was easy to enjoy Peter's company (I had never met a big-time college cheerleader before, so I had lot's of questions about the task, some fairly obvious). I lost track of Peter many years ago, but I still remember his smile and laugh and easy-going tempermant in a fast-paced high-pressure environment. So I smile and am sad at the same time.

We will miss wonderful pete. Please accept our sincere condolences and love; keith,pete's family and all of his other friends. He was a warm and hilarious person who was so so loved. I have so many wonderful memories of Appleseed pool and car pooling to those 6:00 am morning practices at Malabar High School.  Even though we lost contact throughout the years I thought about Peter and your family all the time  Everyone expecially Peter was a big part of my childhood memories.  May memories confort you in this difficult time.  May time soften the pain until all that remains is the beauty of the memories....and the love....always the love. I worked at CompuServe with Peter and he was such a good friend to me.  We did many things together while we both worked there and we had so much fun!  I remember one year when my group of friends was going out to dinner for the holidays and I needed a "date" and Peter graciously went with me.  We had a wonderful time.  Peter always had a great sense of humor too!  When he was sick and going through his chemo, I remember his telling me that yes, his hair did fall out of his head, but thank goodness it did not fall out "down there"!!  I've thought of Peter so many times over the years and I shall always remember him fondly.  My prayers are with Keith and the Scott family.  I will miss him.  Tisha

So sad, I hope he knew how much he meant to so many people over the years. He was the first one to tell me I could swim butterfly and then put me in the next heat...and I won! I was so spent that I couldn't even climb out of the pool and I turned around to look at him crouched at the edge of the pool and he just pointed at me and then smiled that I told you so smile. I'll never forget him. He helped me learn to try to be more confident in my abilities. God Bless you Pete.

So sorry to hear about Peter's passing.  I remember him as a kind, fun-loving soul from High School.  Thoughts and prayers go out to all of his loved ones.  God bless them and help them through this sad time.

My Prayers are with you Scott family and friends at this difficult time. I remember Pete as a skinny little boy who who caught alot of crap from all of us "older Girls", but who also taught us alot about life. Love to you all.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of Peter's family and loved ones. I too remember Peter from swimming, although it was primarily summer swimming. I also remember when Peter shaved his head and ALL facial hair! It was a hoot! He truly believed in 'giving it his all' whenever he attempted anything. Pete was a free spirit.  Fun to be around. Very intense with his swimming.  As the team stats keeper---it was a thrill to see him in the water. Our parents were friends, so I always felt like he kept me in check.  It worked, Pete!  Afte 30+years---I still miss your eyebrows!!!  My heart is heavy tonight---{{{HUGS}}} to Kevin and the family.

Every time I think of Pete, I smile.  We grew up in the pool, ran into each other all of the time, and then sat together in college Economics class.  When we were juniors at OSU, I remember the first time he expressed his interest in becoming a cheerleader and following him through tryouts.  After that, I would run into him as he coached swim teams and I was a judge.

I always kept tabs on him through his mother to hear what he was doing. My heart goes out to Pat, his family and partner.  

Peter, you certainly made an impact on this world and with everyone you met.  Please know you are missed.  Rest in peace.

I am so saddened to hear about Pete.  I grew up just down the street with Pete and went to school with him.  My cousin swam with him at Malabar.  We had a group of friends that all hung out together and partied.  Pete was always so happy and fun.  He was such a wonderful person.  We all loved Pete!  My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and his partner.

I have so many fond memories of Pete.  All the years we shared from Woodland thru Malabar and Appleseed Pool, extending to Columbus when I moved there in the mid 80's.  He was my 2nd big brother, hanging out and watching over me.  We had so much fun and many laughs together.

He exceeded in everything he did.  I looked up to him and admired his many talents.
His whole face lit up when he smiled and what an infectious laugh!  That's what I will remember most of all.

Peter lived a block from my family's home in Mansfield. During the few years I lived there I remember him as one of the nicest and most popular guys in the neighborhood, as well as at Woodland, Appleseed and Malabar. I had the honor of being on the diving team at the Mansfield YMCA with Peter. He was not only the best diver on the team, he also taught me so much about the sport. He also spent many hours in our front yard helping me improve my gymnastic skills. After 10th grade (11th for Peter), I returned to Columbus, and never saw nor spoke to him again. I only wish I had known we were living in the same city for the past 30 years, and we could have maintained our friendship. But he will live in my memory forever. My family is truly saddened by the news of his passing, and our hearts go out to Peter's partner and to both of their families.

Peter was always such a friendly guy in school and I was always fond of him and so when my husband suggested we name our son Pete, I thought that that was a good name.  I wanted to share that with Peter and was hoping he would come to our 30th class reunion,  but when he didn't I was going to try and contact him anyway.  God was trying to tell me to hurry, but I didn't listen.   I wish all the best to his family and loved ones.  Pete knows my story now and I am going to try and listen more closely.

I'm saddened by the news, and my deepest condolences go to Peter's family and friends.

I swam with Peter at Malabar - he was quite a talent.  He could even dive (not just off the starting block, but off the diving board - and he was good!)  Peter was an upbeat team leader with a great work ethic.  And fast - nobody could keep up with him.  

I remember shaving down for the state champs - Peter was the only one brave enough to completely shave his head (like Kojak!)  In fact, he was so enthusiastic about it, he got carried away and accidentally shaved off part of one eyebrow.   Next, he tried to even things up by shaving off part of the other eyebrow.  This looked even worse.   So Peter said "what the heck", and shaved both off completely!  Needless to say, that looked even more unusual... but it got the team pretty fired up!

Here's a photo of the Malabar "hall of fame" plaque that was given to me by one of my parents friends when Malabar ceased being a high school.  Our freestyle relay won the districts, setting a school, district and pool record - primarily due to Peter's amazing anchor leg - something I'll never forget!

I can't think abt my high school years without seeing Pete's big smile, hearing his hearty laugh or remembering the good times we had. He was a talented swimmer & diver, an awesome team leader. He was a kind, fun-loving soul who had a way of making you laugh  -- finding humor even at 6 AM while facing endless laps and aching muscles in a cold natatorium, day after day! And, he was just plain fun to hang out with! My thoughts & prayers are with Pete's loved ones -- he will be missed!

I will always remember Peter for his fun loving spirit and his ability to inspire anyone lucky enough to be part of his world.  As kids, he was the ring leader on Davis Road, rallying kids of all ages for countless neighborhood games.  He was an incredible captain of our high school swim team, inspiring everyone to reach higher than they ever thought possible, while having a great time along the way.  My heart goes out to everyone in his family.  I will always feel blessed for having known him.

I have fond memories of Peter in high school. He was always smiling, always funny, and I am a better person because I knew him back in our younger years. My condolences to his partner and his family.

I've thought of Pete at various times through the years, and echo other sentiments here... As a shy, timid underclassman going out for swim team, Pete made me feel welcome and an important part of the team, even though as a sophomore I rarely placed and was always on a B relay.  I'll never forget going to morning practice, skipping school to go to Columbus to the French Market (it was the 80's) and rushing back for afternoon practice!  My heart goes out to Pete's family.  I can only imagine how he will be missed by those who were part of his life everyday.  I will miss him , and I haven't seen him in 30 years...

Pete was someone I always looked up to--he gave me confidence and inspired me to be a better swimmer.  I will always have fond memories of how he invited us all into the swimming community in Mansfield in th late 70's early 80's and made us feel welcome.  We had great swimmers then--in large part because Pete made us better than we thought we could be!  He was a great person and one of my role models.  He will be missed and blessed.
