Dr. Phil Hoberty Ed.D, age 74, lost his short battle with rapidly advancing interstitial lung disease on Saturday, November 19, 2022, but he won the war against death through Jesus Christ his Lord as he entered in to his heavenly home. He was born on September 25, 1948 in Springfield, Ohio to the late Carl and Sue (Diehl) Hoberty.
Phil was a professor of Respiratory Therapy at several universities including Shawnee State, the University of Louisville, and most recently, retired from The Ohio State University. Phil loved to read, especially history and religion; and was a huge Civil War history buff. He enjoyed watching true crime dramas with his children; and was a major fan of all things from Charles Dickson’s A Christmas Carol. Phil was an animal whisperer and loved his pets very much.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 40 years, Becky Hoberty; children, Angela (Ben Anderson) Hoberty and David (Kelly Heckman) Hoberty; grandchildren, Jordyn, Zoey and Ryder; nephews, Shawn and Adam Hoberty; and niece, Beth Kaper.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Atonement Lutheran Church, 1621 Francisco Road, Columbus, Ohio 43220. Visiting with the family will proceed the service at 10:30 a.m. As Phil was always concerned about those that had less than he was blessed with; a non-perishable food collection box will be made available the day of his service for those who may wish to donate in his honor. Collection will be given to the Lutheran Social Services food pantry.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Atonement Lutheran Church Emergency Fund (to help those in need of food or rent) or Doctors Without Borders (doctorswithoutborders.org/yearendmatch).
Arrangements entrusted to SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST.
