

Philip Logan Hall, 86, died August 13, 2017 at his home in Upper Arlington, Ohio. Phil was born December 11, 1930 in Oakland, California, son of George Lyman Hall and Gertrude Foley Hall. He graduated from Hot Springs High School in Arkansas in 1949. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree from Purdue University and was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy in 1953. At Purdue he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and was Campus Editor of the "Exponent" Purdue's daily student newspaper. Phil served in the Pacific Fleet aboard the light cruiser, USS Manchester and on the staff of the admiral who was Commander Carrier Division 5. In this position he served on six aircraft carriers. He married Marilyn Moores, daughter of John Stuart Lawson Moores and Mary Doris Beard Moores on October 23, 1954 in Springfield, Ohio. Phil and Marilyn came to Columbus in 1956 when Phil went to work for Burgess and Niple, Limited. He worked there for 40 years, 26 of which he was Director of the Highway Section. He was a registered Professional Engineer in Arizona, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia, and was involved in projects in all those states. He participated in the design of approximately half of the Columbus Innerbelt and one third of the Columbus Outerbelt. After he retired, he wrote "Family Stories" a family history. He was a member of the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers, the American Society of Highway Engineers, the Engineers Club of Columbus, and Conestoga. He was an Elder, Primetimer, Head Usher, and coffee server at Covenant Presbyterian Church. He coached baseball and softball in Northam Park. He delivered Meals on Wheels for 21 years. He is preceded in death by his brother Bruce Hall. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn Moores Hall; his son and daughter-in-law, David Hall and Lorraine Wolfangel-Hall of Harrington Park, New Jersey; his daughters and son-in-law, Barbara Patterson of Columbus, Ohio, and Nancy and Brian Stanfill of Powell, Ohio; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Suzie Hall of Emerald Hills, California, Susie Hall of Atlanta, Georgia, and Steve and Judy Hall of Augusta, Georgia; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Sally Moores of Fort Myers, Florida; and his grandchildren, Stephanie and Jessica Hall; Jeremy Patterson; and Timothy, Katie, and Amy Stanfill. Memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2070 Ridgecliff Rd. Arrangements by SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL.
