Phil was born on May 20, 1968, to Philip and Janice (Barker) Henry of Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 1987, where he proudly lettered in football — and, maybe more importantly, made lifelong friends along the way. After high school, he attended The Ohio State University and earned a degree in Economics.
Phil built a meaningful career in the healthcare industry, where his empathy and humor shone through every day. Our family has been deeply moved by the kind words shared by his coworkers, who spoke of his compassion and warmth. Phil never met a stranger — he had a way of making everyone feel seen and cared for.
The true loves of his life were his dogs, Bella and Daisy, both rescues who gave him endless joy. He adored them, and they returned that love in full — just as Phil did with everyone lucky enough to know him.
A loyal fan through thick and thin, Phil cheered on his Buckeyes, Blue Jackets, Wildcats, and Golden Bears with unwavering enthusiasm. Loyalty was one of his defining traits — to his teams, his family, and his friends. He was also a devoted listener of 97.1 The Fan and loved sharing his many call-in winnings with those close to him.
Phil was a big brother not only to his siblings but to their friends too. His teasing was legendary, his laughter unforgettable, and his presence made every gathering brighter. If you ever heard Phil laugh, you’re probably smiling just thinking about it.
He was preceded in death by his father, Phil, and his beloved dogs, Bella and Daisy. He is survived by his mother, Janice; siblings Shawn (Sally), Yvette (Chad), and Beau (Jennifer); nephews Will, Aaron, Hayden, Connor, Andrew, and James; and nieces Hanna, Audrey, Maggie, and Julie. Phil was also blessed to have many loving cousins and relatives.
The family wishes to thank his cousin Heather Hagman and his closest family friend, Kurt Yoder, for their work and dedication to this celebration of life, and his cousin Byron Henry, who will officiate the proceedings.
A celebration of Phil’s life will be held on Friday, November 14, from 2:00–5:00 p.m. at Schoedinger Northwest, 1740 Zollinger Rd, Columbus, Ohio. The service will begin at 2:00, followed by visitation until 5:00.
In true Phil fashion, we’ll be hosting an OSU and UA–themed tailgate — so come dressed in your Buckeyes, Golden Bears, or favorite team gear (except Xichigan).
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Donate Life Ohio, honoring Phil’s gift of life through organ donation, or to the Fairfield County Dog Adoption Center & Shelter, in memory of Phil, Bella, and Daisy. Please visit www.schoedinger.com to share memories and condolences.
