Phil,
My memories of you are mostly of you sitting at work, pulling up a chair, and making everyone laugh.  We'd all be laughing and joking with you, you'd have a smile on your face.  You were always talked about in an admirable way, and I mean that.  You are now missed, and never forgotten.  Leann Upton, and all your Navy friends.  God Bless you.

I've  known Phil for the past 5 years and have worked closely with him for the past 2. He was a hard worker and quickly became a very good analyst. But more than that, he became a really good friend. I'm really going to miss all the conversations we had about sports and hunting. But most of all, I'm just going to miss his presence. Phil, the office is not same without you in it. Your leadership, laughter and silly little antics are going to be greatly missed.

Sadness does not even begin to scratch the surface of what I feel.  It doesn't seem real or even possible that something like this could happen.  Phil was a number of things to me; a coworker, a workout partner, a pain at times, and most of all he was my friend that I loved like a brother.  Those of us that were lucky enough to truly know Phil and make it past his hard ass exterior, know what a beautiful and caring person he really was.  I truly love you Phil and a piece of me will alway be missing with you being gone my brother.  I will forever question what more I could have done as your friend but I truly hope have found peace.

I didn't know Staff Sargent Philip Runyon but I know someone who loved him very much. My condolences go out to all family and close friends during this very sad time.

I smile when I think about our shared love of Journey, hummus, and dogs.  I giggle when I think about the milk challenge ("it hurts") and truck rivalry.  

Everyone you have touched will continue your legacy.  I'll honor you with patriotism, love of the military, love of friends and family, and maybe root for OSU.

The sun is not quite as bright right now.  Our smiles feel forced.  Our nights are restless.  When something is taken from us that made our days lighter and lifted our spirits, it's difficult to figure out what to do.  But some time will help us remember your spirit and your smile will once again fill our memories.  Our memories of you will motivate us to be good to others like you were... to smile and joke with our friends like you did... to put our families first as you did.  We'll realize that we'll be better people if we take lessons from the way you carried yourself and from the way you served an entire country.  If I do those things, then I know we'll meet up again, and then the sun will be brighter and our smiles lighter and our nights peaceful.  Travel in peace, Phil.

Can't believe you're gone, I've know you for almost 10 years now. We may not have always gotten along but, you will be missed. RIP Runyon

Donation made to Honor Flight Dayton in honor and memory of SSgt Runyon.

Just found out that one of my former Airmen - SSgt Phillip Runyon passed away earlier this week. My head is low and my heart is heavy. Airman First Class Runyon was one of four Airmen I took with me from my unit to Kandahar Air Base Afghanistan in 2009 to be a Force Protection Escort. He was a very good Airman, dedicated and loyal. He had a good and successful deployment, and I know that he went on at least 1 more deployment before I lost contact with him. I don't know what he must have been struggling with in his life recently, but the phenomenon of military people committing suicide at significantly higher rates than the rest of society MUST continue to be studied in an effort to understand what exactly are the modes and reasons this happens. Rest in Peace Phil. Thanks for being a great member of my team, and Thank you for your service. Thoughts and prayers of healing from me to his family and friends. Such a huge loss.

I was his supervisor for only a short time but his laugh was contagious. It was an honor to serve with you!!!

Proud to call him my best friend. An amazing person and has changed my life in more ways than I can count. Nothing I say here can do him justice, I only knew him for 5 years but that was more than enough to change me for a life time.

I miss you man, I'm so sorry I couldn't help you.

You're light on this earth will be truly missed. You were a fun loving person who had a big heart, a slightly bigger mouth :) and a kind soul. I was very saddened to learn that you had left us and the only solace for me is that you're in a better place. I'm truly honored to have served with you and also to have shared laughs with you. Thank you for your friendship, your encouragement and help during the endurance event we participated in together. I'll always remember your friendly words of encouragement and teasIng me about being old and slow during the ruck march. We never know God's plan but I pray that your family will be able to find some peace and heal from this tragic event. May peace be upon you, your soul and your family, rest easy brother we've got the watch from here.

He was such a fun person to work with in the office. His joking around, heated discussions and the music he'd play (repeatedly) over our stereo. I listened to "Sax Man" in his honor and teared up thinking about the good times we had with him.

Phil was one of my brightest Airmen and was a pleasure to work with.   He will be sorely missed.  My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
