Randall Richard Shrout passed into the loving hands of Jesus on February 3, 2016. Randy was born in Waukeshaw, Wisconsin on September 30, 1950, to Harriet and George Shrout. At the age of 3 they moved to Rockland, Maine, the lobster capital of the world, where he grew up and graduated from Rockland District High School. Although Randy moved away from Maine, it was always a very important part of him. That is why for many summers he brought his daughters, Kirsten and Stefanie, back home to visit their grandmother. Randy also took much pride in his grandchildren and tried to make an effort to be at important events despite the distance, whether it was being there for first birthday parties or taking them to Red Sox games. One of his greatest accomplishments was seeing his daughters graduate from Boston College.
Randy always enjoyed sports, starting with little league and then playing football, basketball, and baseball in high school and at Bridgton Academy. Randy earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University and his master’s degree from the University of Connecticut. He was able to turn his love of sports into a career when he joined Boston College in 1977 as the Head Athletic Trainer and then became Assistant Athletic Director. In 1997 he then joined The Ohio State University as Director of Basketball Operations. For the past 7 years he has been privileged to work with Dr. Ray Tesner at Sports Medicine Grant & Orthopedic Associates in Columbus, OH.
Randy is preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Harriet and Loren Jordan, his father, George, his beloved grandmother, Julia, and his nephew, Dylan.
Randy leaves his wife, Marcia; daughters, Kirsten (Chris) Shrout Fernandes, Stefanie (Joe) Herschbach, and Rachael Linnehan; step-children, Brady (Laura) Berlin, Lane (Sarah) Berlin, Casey Berlin, and Emma Berlin; and grandchildren, Connor, Grant, Nathan, Haley, Elijah, Louisa, Henning, Wyatt, Jack, George, Wyatt, Oliver, Owen, Riley and Graham. He is also survived by his sisters, Deborah Dyer, Susan St. Clair, and Elaine Meklin, as well as nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on March 5th at 2pm at Wedgewood Golf & Country Club in Powell, OH and on June 10th at 4pm at St. Ignatius in Chestnut Hill, MA.
