Rebecca Lyle Rogers Crawford

Rebecca Lyle Rogers Crawford, age 91, of Worthington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 8, 2012. She was born to the late Lester and Ethel Rogers on March 22, 1920 in Montgomery, AL. Rebecca obtained her Nursing Degree from University of Alabama Birmingham and attended Jefferson Hillman Infirmary. She received her Bachelor of Counseling from Troy State University when she was 58 years old. She was an activist during the Civil Rights Movement. She treated everyone equally regardless of race. She was also a supervisor at VA Hospital in Tuskegee, AL for many victims on Syphilis study wards. A rehabilitation Counselor and nurse for Homebound Program in Alabama. Founding member of The St. Andrews Society in Tuscaloosa, AL. Rebecca retired at the age of 72 after many dedicated years of service to mankind. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at the age of 78. She always encouraged education and the importance in preparing for rainy days. She was a woman of faith and a woman before her time. She loved to knit and sew to make beautiful things to give to others. She had an uplifting sense of humor and always saw the glass as half full. In addition to her parents, Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband, Stuart Chandler Crawford; and siblings, Elizabeth Marion Rogers Burke and Lester Rogers. She is survived by her loving daughters, Libbie Crawford and Camille Crawford Voorhies. The family of Rebecca would like to extend a special thank you to the friendly staff at Laurels of Norworth for their 8 years of dedicated support and care. A private memorial service will be held in honor of Rebecca, day and time will be announced at a later date.
