Rex Swayne, 71, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025. Born on April 8, 1954, in Welch, West Virginia, Rex was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents, James and Gloria Swayne, and his brother David. He is survived by his loving wife Tina; his children Wendy, Rex Jr “Bud”(Claudia), Gianna, Neale, and Blair; and his stepsons Bobby and Tommy.
He is also survived by his mother-in-law Dottie Hatfield, and his siblings: Jerry (Delores), Donald (Charlotte), Debbie (Kenny), Charles (Rosalind), Robert (Lisa), Sharon (Jerry), Paula (Van), Judy (Cliff), Rosy (Clark), and John.
Rex was a proud grandfather to 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews.
A hardworking and sharp-minded man, Rex began his career with Rockwell International, later working in waste management before retiring from Mars Petcare. Known for his keen mind—especially when it came to math—Rex brought intelligence and a strong work ethic to everything he did.
Outside of work, Rex was a lifelong New England Patriots fan, a regular follower of the Kentucky Derby, and a proud veteran of the United States Air Force.
His presence, laughter, and wisdom will be remembered always.
Visitation will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Schoedinger East Funeral Home, 5360 E Livingston Ave, Columbus, Ohio 43232.
Burial will follow at Glen Rest Memorial Estates.
