

A funeral service for Richard L. “Dick” Colby, 77 of Newark, will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Pastor David Hogg officiating. Burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery with the Licking County Veterans Alliance providing military honors.
Dick was born in Brockton, Mass on August 28, 1933 to the late Ralph and Gwendolyn (Moody) Colby. He passed away at his residence on Sunday, December 12, 2010 with his family by his side.
Dick graduated from Holbrook High School in Brockton, Massachusetts. While in high school, he enjoyed working as a short order cook. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Prior to retirement, he was a customer service engineer for 35 years with National Cash Register. He was a member of the American Legion in Calabash, NC; former member of the Jacksonville, NC Masonic Lodge and Moose Lodge. Dick loved spending time with his wife and kids, camping at the beach on weekends, going to baseball and football games. He also participated in scouting with his three sons, serving as a scout leader. He enjoyed fishing, camping, cooking, woodworking and rebuilding Penn fishing reels. Dick knew no stranger and loved everyone he met.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Nancy M. (McLean) Colby, whom he met on July 21, 1957; three sons, Ronald (Lori) Colby of Cambridge, David (Chastity) Colby of Indianapolis and Steven (Anita) Colby of Newark; brother, Robert (Helen) Colby of Chatham, Mass; 13 grandchildren, Danielle, Ben, Cory, Justin, Joseph, Brandon, Phillip, Matthew, Alayna, David, Kara, Chase and Jaycee; four great grandchildren, Taylor, Alexis, Kaiden and Ashlynn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one granddaughter, Samantha Colby; brother, Ralph Colby; and nephew, Dick Colby.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
