

Richard C. McPherson, age 78, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2011. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on May 16, 1933, to the late Clayton and Evelyn McPherson. Rich served our country in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After his service, he became well-known through the Associated Press for his work as a teletype operator for professional sports in the Pittsburgh area. He eventually retired from the AP. He was a professional photographer, and he loved to take pictures of animals and sporting events. He also retired from Huntington Bank. He was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and he had a wonderful, though sarcastic, sense of humor. He loved children and was affectionately known as “Pap.” He is survived by his children, Paul (Darcy) McPherson, Kathleen (Tim) Weaver, and Karen (Robert) Neal; grandchildren, Brittany (Nathan) Brush, Ryan Benson, David (Kayte) McPherson, Shaun Benson, and David Weaver; and great granddaughters, Rylie and Avery Benson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Keith McPherson. Family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at the SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, Ohio. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, Celebrant Mark Dettmer officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
