Richard (Dick) Egolf Miller, a resident of Powell, Ohio, passed away in his sleep of natural causes with his beloved wife Norma by his side on Thursday April 12, 2012. Born September 4, 1928 to Verna June Egolf and Ross King Miller, he was 83 years old at time of death. He was born in Somerset, Pennsylvania and grew up just a few miles away from his future wife. He attended Penn State University and graduated with a Bachelors in Finance. Shortly after, he was inducted into the army during the Korean War on December 14, 1950. He married Norma Janet Henry in Cumberland, Maryland on April 14, 1951. He was still stationed in Japan as an army finance accounting clerk when his son, Richard Henry, was born in Somerset. He returned home to his wife and son nearly 8 months later. The young family moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1953 where he raised his family and worked until his passing. During this time, two more children, Christina Marie (brief life of two days) and John Douglas, were brought into the family. Dick had a fulfilling professional life, with continuous growth and promotions, where his skills of negotiating, purchasing, and especially his integrity were highly valued. He worked for a number of companies including North American Rockwell, Industrial Nucleonics, and concluded his overall 40 year career with Mettler Toledo, the largest scale company in the world. Besides being a devoted husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed using his computer for capturing family history complete with pictures, vegetable gardening, reading, singing in a barber shop quartet, being an avid national and world news junkie, and of course Penn State football.
Dick is survived by a large and loving family: his wife Norma; son Rick (Kayleen) Ithaca, N.Y.; grandchildren Ryan (Karen) Miller, Chesapeake, VA and their children: Brianna, Brayden, Zachary and Carson; Natalie (Ryan Rasmussen), Queen Creek, AZ and their children: Coral, Peter and Lucy; Raymond (Molly) Miller, Naperville, IL and their children: Weston, William and Kayleen; Sean (Alison) Miller, Delaware, OH; Kyle Miller, Aurora, IL; Trevor Miller and Kendall Miller, Ithaca, NY; Heather Miller and Hannah Miller, Worthington, OH; beloved sister Dorothy (George Dively), Somerset, PA; sister-in-laws Iona (Bus Parker) Somerset, PA ; June (Norman Henry) Baltimore, MD; and many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Dick is predeceased by his parents and his children: Christina (1954) and John (2011), whose children are Sean, Heather and Hannah.
Perhaps his life could be summed up in three simple words: Family, Integrity, Humor.
