Richard J. Stranges

Dr. Richard James Stranges, Sr., age 83, born January 3, 1935 to the late Joseph and Rose Marie (Settina) Stranges, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2018. Survived by his beloved wife of 62 years - his Sweetheart Kathryn (Wycoff) Stranges, along with his children, Ric (Sharon), Dennis (Evie), Robb (Susie), Tina (Nick) Verdea, and Mike (Gretchen) Stranges, his lifetime brother Bob Vincenzo, his much loved 15 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren, dear Nieces and Nephews, and many lifelong cherished friends. Richard was preceded in death by his siblings Caroline (Leo) Lada, Louise (Norman) Vodvarka, and Dr. Joseph (Mary) Stranges, Jr. Richard graduated from his home town pride and joy, Holloway High School, in 1952, from West Liberty University in 1956, and earned his Masters and Ph.D. degrees from The Ohio State University in 1965 and 1969, respectively. Richard began his career in the Columbus Public Schools as an English teacher, then became a Guidance Counselor. Upon completing his Ph.D., he was a Professor at the University of Notre Dame, the University of Nebraska Omaha, then returned to The Ohio State University Counseling Center, from where he retired in 1987. Richard continued his Psychology Private Practice, faithfully serving his clients. As a man of Faith, Richard will always be remembered for his kindness, love of life, wisdom, his wit and story-telling, and especially for his love for his bride and children. Friends and family will be received at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 North High Street, Worthington, OH 43085 Friday, June 29th from 5-8 pm where a funeral service will be held Saturday, June 30th, 11:00 a.m., Father Mike Gribble officiating. Internment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Luncheon reception following at Grace Fellowship Church, 3475 Paris Blvd, Westerville, OH 43081.
