Dick was born 79 years ago and spent his pre-school years in Delaware, Ohio. He middle-schooled in Martins Ferry, Ohio, and he finished his high-school career at Anderson High School in Cincinnati.
Dick spent 72 years studying football at Ohio State University, culminating in their championship victory in the first ever college football playoff. For a few of those years he also attended math, science, and liberal arts classes at OSU and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
Dick enjoyed a long career as a draftsman and engineer, ultimately as CEO of Varo engineers, a successful local engineering consulting firm. He was an avid golfer and has deposited golf balls in many of the nation’s forests, oceans, and lakes. He enjoyed martinis at sunset, travel with friends in far-off lands, and dozens of Columbus’ wildest New Year’s Eve costume parties with local socialites.
Dick was a man who, in the words of Steve Jobs, left a dent in the universe. He was a man of great presence and humor, who was not forgotten by those who met him.
His mother, Margaret Taylor (Williams), his father Charles Andrew Taylor, and his brother Colonel Charles “Chuck” Taylor of the USAF preceded him in death.
He will be deeply and terribly missed by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Taylor (Sutton); his sons Mike (and wife Carrie) and Scott (and wife Michelle); his grandsons Dominic, Sam, and Josh; his step-grandsons Sam and Trey; and the ever-widening universe of friends, family, in-laws, and relatives who crossed paths with him.
Visitation will be begin at 2PM and conclude with a memorial service at 4PM at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON, 6699 N. High St. on July 1, 2015. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to your favorite charity in Dick Taylor’s name.
