Richard Martin Thompson III

Richard graduated from Grandview Heights High School in Grandview Heights, Ohio, in 1973. From an early age, he displayed a remarkable mechanical aptitude that would shape both his career and passions. He began working at Swallens Audio in the audio department, where his lifelong love of music and stereo systems flourished. He later worked at Foster Air Data Systems, contributing to the manufacturing of navigation computer equipment for aircraft, and went on to work in the engineering department at Battelle.

Richard continued his career at Stewart’s Security, eventually founding his own business, JET Security, a reflection of his entrepreneurial spirit and technical expertise. He finished his professional career with Johnson Safe Company, where his knowledge and skill were deeply valued.

In 1983, Richard married the love of his life, Juel Donczak. Together they shared 43 years of marriage and raised two children, Alison and Richard Thompson, building a family filled with laughter, creativity, and love.

Richard was beyond mechanically talented. There truly was nothing he could not repair or fix. He had a deep love for music and spent countless hours in his music room playing guitar, keyboard, and trumpet. Music was both a passion and a joy he carried throughout his life. He also loved restoring classic cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles and proudly attended many shows and events to share that passion with others.

Known for his great sense of humor, Richard always knew how to make people laugh and feel at ease. His wit, warmth, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Jeanette Thompson. He is survived by his devoted wife, Juel Thompson; his children, Alison (Brad) Johnson and Richard Thompson IV; his beloved grandchildren; and his sister, Jenny (Mark) Scranton.

The family is grateful to Scott Smiley, for his presence and support throughout Richard’s final days.

A celebration of Richard’s life will be organized at a later date.
