

Dr. Richard Haggerty Turner, age 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. Richard was born on September 12, 1937 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Floyd and Helen (Haggerty) Turner. Richard was also preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Barbara Wilson Turner, brothers Tom and Jim.
Richard was a 1955 graduate of Upper Arlington High School. He continued his education at The Ohio State University and graduated from OSU Medical School. During college he was a Beta Theta Pi, Alpha Omega Alpha and a charter member of the Ohio Staters. He also belonged to the Sphinx Society and was a supporter of the university as a member of the President’s club. Dr. Turner spent 38 years as an orthopedic surgeon at Riverside Methodist Hospital and was known for his dedication to his patients. He was an avid skier, golfer and tennis player, and loved the outdoors. His adventures took him from canoeing in Alaska to Summiting Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and spending his winters in Florida.
He is survived by his loving wife Carole Chard Turner of 14 years; who was with him while he transitioned into Heaven; sons Steve (Sherrill) Turner, Jeffrey (Christina) Turner and Thomas (Daniella) Turner; stepsons Dana (Rachel) Chard, David (Stavra) Chard and Brian Chard; and 13 grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Schoedinger Northwest, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221. A Celebration of Life Reception will immediately follow from 2:00-4:00pm.
