I am sorry to hear of Bob's passing, I was out of state this past week and just got word.  My prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. May you find comfort in knowing that he is no longer in pain.  Mike & Terry Marr

Bob,

How can one thank you for all the gifts that you have provided?

As a colleague at first in the 70's with the Division of Safety & Hygiene when we began working together, you shared your knowledge and experience at Columbus Auto Parts about safety.  Also, working with the UAW where you taught us the creed that as a worker, "We come here to work, not to die".  And that as safety consultants we need to be seriously vigilant for situations that may adversely affect those whom we are supposed to serve.

You later became my supervisor, a title that you despised as "there was nothing "super" about that person".  But in that position you lead by example impressing upon all of us the seriousness of our duty to provide workers with safer conditions after our visits.

I admired you for challenging those "so called engineers" by interviewing for an open position when they had failed to uncover the high levels of lead in the Columbus Police shooting range.  You effectively made your point!

You were really tickled to learn how to print out OSHA standards on a computer by pushing a button.  Not a person who passed by your office could get away without having you run a copy of some standard whether they wanted it or not!  The budget for paper and ink took a spike for quite a period back then.

The staff learned expressions like "that dog won't hunt" and to freely use the term "that's boosh.t"  

Your magic tricks were always an added attraction to your training classes and staff meetings as were your terrible oft repeated jokes.  e.g. "Social Security" , response "I don't get it".  "No, you won't until you're 65!"  Or who can forget the "Diesel fitter" joke?  These were always real groaners, but you were always decent, silly, and fun!

To this day I won't buy a non UAW approved vehicle largely due to your influence (though I once saw you with a Japanese pick-up truck).  That's a legacy that you left for me!

All the crafts that you produced have been shared with both family and friends  I treasure  my personalized hand carved walking stick, my heavy duty pizza cutter, my sheet metal dust pan, and my OSU yard whirligig which you took out of your own yard.  They all  represent the love that you gave to everyone in your life.

I also admire you for all your concern for my family members about whom you would regularly inquire.

Would that I could repay you for all these things.

Nobody could ask for a better mentor than Bob Brockmeyer.  His passion for safety, family, and God are unparalleled.  Three catch phrases come to mind "that dog won't hunt", "handier than a pocket on a shirt", "you are a dumbass if you really think that (luckily I only got this one used on me a time or two)".  I am so grateful to have Bob as a friend and mentor the last 17 years and can attribute my success to him.  Rest in Peace Mr. Brockmeyer your legacy will live on through the thousands of lives you touched.
