Robert Andrew Fuller Jr.

Rob was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on September 5, 1946 to Janet and Robert (Bob) Fuller Sr., grandson of Robert Swanson, owner of James W. Elwell & Co., the oldest ongoing transatlantic shipping company in the U.S. He was the oldest of three siblings: Douglas Fuller and Susan McDonough. His life was a testament to love, faith, family, and friends.

He attended The Choate School before studying Economics at Stanford University, and later earned his Master of Business Administration from NYU Stern. Rob began his banking career in 1970 at Bank of America, rising quickly into senior leadership positions with assignments in Hong Kong, Malaysia, and South Korea before returning “home” as the SVP/Area Manager for the bank’s flagship San Francisco region. In 1987, he founded the Commercial Bank of San Francisco. After its sale in 2000, he launched his own consultancy, later serving as President of several regional banks. After moving to Columbus, he became a senior lecturer at Ohio State’s Fisher College of Business, where he mentored students and left a lasting mark on the next generation of business leaders.

Rob’s faith in God was a cornerstone of his life. He was an active and devoted member of several churches over his life, most recently Broad Street Presbyterian Church of Columbus, Ohio. A steady churchgoer, he found joy in Bible study, often leading discussions marked by a deep grasp of scripture and a compassionate spirit. Rob expressed his faith through service, fellowship, and kindness, and he took purpose in helping others grow spiritually. He will be remembered for his steadfast conviction that a life rooted in faith can bring light to others.

He lived his life fully, filling his days with favorite hobbies like golf, pickleball, puzzling, sculpting stone and planting a beautiful container garden each spring in Fuller family vintage terracotta pots. He appreciated artistry whether it unfolded on canvas, on the field, or on the screen, equally cheering on the San Francisco 49ers, enjoying the latest popular TV series, or film, or attending an opera. But his greatest passion was being a part of his children and grandchildren’s lives, helping however and wherever he could, and oftentimes at the drop of a hat halfway across the country. He had a deep love for international travel, and fulfilled his goal of spending time with each of his four children in Florence, Italy. Above all else, he never missed an opportunity to tell them how proud he was of each one of them.

He is survived by his four children: Jennifer (Antonino) Coppola, Anne (Shane) Savery, Timothy (Katelyn) Fuller, and Cassidy (John) Patterson; grandchildren, Alexandra Coppola, Caterina Coppola, Georgia Savery, and Robert Savery; sister Susan (William) McDonough; her children, Abigail McDonough, Robert Andrew McDonough, and Matthew McDonough; his sister-in-law Pamela Fuller and his cousins Janet Stewart, David Kindle, Thomas Kindle and Andrew Adams. Rob’s memory will live on through his family, whose lives have been enriched by his love and support.

Rob has been reunited in Heaven with his parents, Janet and Robert Fuller, brother Douglas Fuller, daughter Madeline Fuller and cousins Judith Bell, David Swanson, Carolyn Kindle, Dick Fuller, and Meredith Baum.

A service will be held in his honor on Friday, January 30th at 11:00 am ET at Broad Street Presbyterian Church of Columbus, Ohio (760 E Broad St, Columbus, OH 43205), with the family receiving guests beginning one hour prior.

Philippians 4:6-7: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
