

Robert Gene Kennedy, age 89, of Columbus, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2018 at The Sanctuary after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Bob was born in Columbus on February 21, 1929. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oramel and Thelma Kennedy, his brother, Donald Kennedy and his college sweetheart and loving wife of 50 years, Jacqueline Knisley Kennedy. He attended East High School and then Capital University ('50) where he was the first All-American football player. Bob served for two years in the U.S. Army. Upon discharge, he worked for two decades at F and R Lazarus Co. and then in the development offices for both Ohio State and Capital Universities. Bob was an avid tennis player and later a golfer. Family and friends made him happiest. He was always known for sharing a quick joke, a sly smile and enjoying a good slice of pie. Bob is survived by his wife Susan and sister Nancy Kennedy Armstrong. Daughter Dr. Deborah Kennedy Caranna (Dr. Charles) and son, Jon Douglas Kennedy (Erin). Grandchildren, Michael Kennedy (Katie), Kelsey Kennedy, and Marissa Caranna. Step-daughters Beth Phillips (John) and Stephanie Stewart (Gregg), step-son, Matt Shoman. Step-grandchildren Bo, Jack and Ellie Phillips, Abigail and Hannah Stewart and many beloved nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 3:00-6:00pm at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd, Columbus, OH 43221. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, March 12, 2018 at 11:00am at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 1088 Thomas Lane, Columbus, OH 43220. Interment to follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
