Mr. Killoren was a great friend and a wonderful person to spend time with. I remember spending the day with him and helped him move into an apartment in Florida when he took a job at a local school. Just to sit an have enjoyable conversations with him on a variety of topics from religion and family to politics and sports, it was always a fun. I also remember hanging out with him and the family for movie nights and dinner during the summer I was taking classes at Penn State and especially when visiting State College after I graduated. You will be truly missed. We will continue to keep in our prayers the Killoren family left behind.

Hello, my name is Philip Terrence and Bob and I attended Holy Cross Seminary in Notre Dame, IN from 1964 to 1966...that’s freshman and sophomore years of high school. Bob made it longer than me, but that’s another story.
    I look back at those years with such fondness because it absolutely was not your typical HS experience. We all lived, ate, worked, played, prayed and laughed together every day, and as a result, we knew each other really well.
      So let me tell you about Bob:
He was a brilliant bundle of happy and positive energy. He had an incredible sense of right and wrong- he would have made a wonderful judge. He was:
Class President, Debater and star athlete who was always inclusive in whatever he did.... you can ask anyone who was there! He left quite an impression on everyone.
    My personal favorite memory of young Bob was the big football game between the freshman (us) and sophomore class. Bob was (of course)
our quarterback and even after all these years, I can still see that pass of his floating my way for what turned out to be the winning TD.
      When I met Bob, he played piano- that’s right- no guitar! BUT he learned it
because HCS had hootenannys - and he loved the concept, and was great at it!
       I hadn’t seen Bob since I left in 1966, but when I tracked him down 50
years later to enlist his help to find our other classmates he, as always, dove right in. We had the reunion in 2014 and it was awesome! ...It was so great to see him and everyone else. The highlight was Bob playing guitar!
       I’m so happy to have known Bob and I treasure his memory and always will.

Deacon Bob was such a blessing to Good Shepherd Parish. From his warm, inviting smile to his relevant and relatable homilies to his beautiful worship music that we enjoy singing to this day, he made everyone feel welcomed and special. Thank you Pat and family for sharing him with us while in State College--our prayers are with you.

Deacon Bob has meant so much to our faith life - from the beautiful music he composed for our parish, to the start of our Choir, which still continues today, to the baptisms of our children.  His spirituality, friendship, talents, and laughter will be treasured memories for us always.  May he rest in peace and continue to watch over his family and friends guiding them to our heavenly home.  Love and prayers to Pat and his beautiful family.

He was a good strong man. He came to visit with Bob at the nursing home which was much appreciated. He was a good encourager in his words and actions. He helped Father Reichert a lot when Bill was gone. I will miss him.

Deacon Bob was already at Good Shepherd Parrish when we arrived in 1999.  He baptized all 3 of our kids in small ceremonies for our family.  He was a wonderful source of song and inspiration at Good Shepherd.  We felt the loss when he left, and we will all miss him more now.  Our prayers are with his family and friends in Ohio.

I treasure memories of how Bobby took the time to make all of us younger cousins feel special.  First order of business when he visited us in KS, he’d pile us “3 little boys” in his car to head up to the local grocery to get ingredients for homemade pizzas that we’d make together. He drove us around in our quest to collect aluminum cans and box turtles. He patiently let us be his too small caddies on the golf course. He entertained us with funny songs on his guitar. The cool thing was, you could tell he genuinely enjoyed the time spent together as much as we little kids did.

I knew Bob superficially when he was a great Penn State administrator, and a little less superficially when we were both involved in Good Shepherd here in State College. But while I barely knew Bob, I admired him tremendously. What a blast it was to be part of the group that got Good Shepherd started, and Bob supplied both brains and glue and inspiration. I was on the committee that drafted the first Good Shepherd mission statement, and what a thrill it was to hear when Bob set it to beautiful music! And since he moved to OSU, I've appreciated his letters to America magazine: thoughtful and loving. So sorry to hear of Bob's death, but so pleased to have been one of the many touched by his life.

Bob was a national leader in his field, respected by all of us.   For those of us lucky enough to have Bob teach us, and make us laugh, and make us enjoy our jobs more than we otherwise would have, we also know what a dedicated father and husband he was, and what a dedicated servant he was in his church community, what a great friend he was to so many, and how his talents for poetry, writing, music and humor had no bounds.

Even in his teens, Bobby was the perfect mentor, guitar teacher, and window to the world of the late 60’s and early 70’s for this younger cousin in Kansas. Visits from St. Louis were treasured by us (‘Bobby & Karen are coming!’) His humor, wit, talent, and intellect were an inspiration. For me, it was-- Simon, Garfunkel, and Bobby. What a loss; what a love.
