

Robert E. Long, age 74 of Galloway passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2021 in Columbus. He was born in Columbus April 17, 1947 to the late Eugene A. and Dorothy K. Long. Bob graduated from West High School, Class of 1964. He enlisted in the US Army and served his country in Vietnam where he suffered a bullet wound in combat. Bob returned home and worked for many years as a lithographic artist with the Byrum Company. Bob always loved being outside and later opened LandH Landscaping which he truly enjoyed. He was an avid flower and vegetable gardener, and his lawn was always an immaculate showplace. He loved to fish and shared that passion with his daughter and granddaughters. He looked forward to trips to St. Augustine and spending time at the ocean. Bob was a board member of Green Lawn Abbey and participated in the recent restoration work there. He was kind, loving, and an honorable gentle man who shared his sense of humor with his granddaughters. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Bonnie R. Long; daughter Briana (Scott) Johnson; and he was "Pop" to his granddaughters Abigail and Amelia. Bob is also survived by his sister Jan (Rex) Rader; the Harrison sisters; brother-in-law Gary; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held 2 PM Sunday, September 5, 2021 at Bethel Lutheran Church 4501 Hoover Rd. Rev. Peter Ray officiating. U.S. Army Military Honors will follow the service. Bob's family will receive guests beginning at 12 PM until the time of the service. Bob's family would like to thank Stephanie, Heather, Shanille, Lisa Crandall, and all the staff of Capital City Hospice for their loving care as well as Zach and Marie at Westminster-Thurber.
