

Robert Wright Mixon, 82, of Columbus, passed away December 3, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 31, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Alex and Addie (Murrell) Mixon. Robert is also preceded in death by his son, Wayne Cason; grandson, Albert Brown; sisters, Mae Johnson, Murdis Gilbert; brothers, Rev. L.C. Mixon, Walter Mixon, Troy Mixon and also by his stepmother, Ada Mixon. Robert is survived by his devoted wife and caretaker of 48 years, Cora Smith Mixon; children, Merlene (Donald) Coulter, Carol (William) Nothstine Pryor, Barbara Brown Thomas, Marty Jacson, Melanie Green; daughter-in-law, Leneva Cason; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Robert was a longtime member of the Broad Street Christian Church, where he was a Deacon under the leadership of Dr. LaTaunya Bynum. He was a veteran of the US Army where he proudly served as a Sergeant during the Korean Conflict, receiving 2 Bronze Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. Robert was the VP of the Steelworkers of America Union and worked for Dayton Malleable Iron Company for over 30 years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed camping at Salt Fork. Above all, Robert loved spending time with his family. Friends will be received from 10:00-11:00AM Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at Trinity Baptist Church 461 St. Clair Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43203 where a Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00AM. Dr. Victor Davis will be officiating with entombment at Kingwood Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to Odyssey Hospice in Robert’s memory. Arrangements entrusted to Schoedinger Midtown Chapel.
