Robert worked as a mechanical engineer and was known for his sharp mind and attention to detail. Over the course of his career, he earned several patents for innovations in his field.
That same attention to detail showed up in many parts of his life. He enjoyed reading, painting, crafting, cross-stitching, and sudoku puzzles. Each Christmas, he was known for meticulously wrapping gifts with perfectly measured paper and crisp corners — a tradition that became part of the holiday experience for his family.
Robert was a member of Brice United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir. He also volunteered as a Cub Scout leader, giving his time and guidance to young scouts in the community.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Christine Margaret Poe, and his sister, Nancy Mabe.
He is survived by his children: Adam (Emily), Aaron (Kristy), Amanda Alderman (Micah), and Eric; grandchildren: Eirene (Riley) Horsley, Clara, Isaac, Elias, Marissa, Noah, Caleb, Sabrina, and Noelle; sister, Helen Frazier; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Schoedinger East, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43232. A funeral service will be held at the same location on Friday, October 3 at 10:00 a.m., with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Capital City Hospice.
