He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary (Sandy) Beaton; his children, Robert (Jocelyn) Strati of New York and Marcia (Corey) Strati-Barnes of Dublin, Ohio; his cherished grandson, Ian Strati; and his brother, David (Alba) Strati of Allston, Massachusetts.
A native of Boston, Bob was deeply proud of his Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots—as evidenced by the team stickers still proudly displayed on the back of our current car.
He graduated from English High School and Northeastern University. During college, he began working for Sears Roebuck and eventually joined the Sears Catalog Distribution Center in Boston in 1968. He transferred to Columbus in 1971, where he became a Buckeye—especially after discovering the OSU football team. He fully embraced Buckeye spirit, often dressing in scarlet and gray outfits, including his signature suspenders. He retired from the Sears Distribution Center after 37 years of service, during which time he served as Projects Manager and oversaw the closing and sale of the building.
Bob held fond memories of returning to Boston to visit his grandparents, walking to Harvard Square, and exploring the city’s historical sites. Family vacations on Cape Cod—especially at Dennis beaches—were a treasured part of his life. He always claimed they had the best lobster rolls evah. This year, we celebrated his 80th birthday on a Dennis lobster boat, enjoying an evening tour along the shoreline. We all agreed: it was the best lobster evah—a festive family way to end the summer.
He taught Rob and Marcy to ski at Ohio’s Snow Trails. One particularly memorable Christmas, he planned a ski weekend to the mountains of North Conway, New Hampshire.
Even after 55 years in Ohio, Bob’s Boston accent never faded. People often asked, “Where are you from?”
He was a member of St. Anthony Church (now St. Bakhita) since 1972 and was active in the St. Vincent de Paul group. A former member of the neighborhood Y, he enjoyed playing racquetball with his work friends. He also loved golf, especially with his Sears colleagues. Bob was one of those dedicated neighborhood runners—you could count on seeing him jogging through the streets of our Forest Park neighborhood every evening after work.
Over the past 3½ years, Bob faced a number of health challenges. In the past year, those struggles became increasingly difficult, and this final battle with sepsis was simply too much.
As St. Augustine wrote, “Our heart is restless until it rests in You, Lord.”
Bob’s race is run. His heart is at peace. He is home
