Robert L. Thurman

Robert (Bob) L. Thurman, age 68 passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, August 17, 2015. Bob was proud graduate of the Class of 1964 Gahanna Lincoln High School; Attended The Ohio State University; Member of the 121st OANG 1965-1971; United States Air Force, Kunsan A.B. Korea 1968-1969 (Pueblo crisis); employed by Western Electric/Lucent Technologies 1965-2006. Bob was involved in many community and philanthropic activities including Volunteer for Jefferson Township Fire Department 1969-1975; former Chairman Jefferson Township Park Board; American Legion Legislative Liaison 2006-2007; original Trustee Gahanna Veterans Memorial; member of the Northland Community Council (NCC) serving several years as Chairman of the NCC Development Committee; President of the Albany Park Homeowners’ Association 2003-2014; Trustee Military Veterans Education Foundation since 1998 and serving several years as President; served many years as a volunteer usher at The Ohio State University football games and usher at the Schottenstein Center; volunteer for the I Know I Can program 1997-2004; Life Member of VFW Post 4719; Member American Legion Post 797; Member of 15th Congressional District Veterans Advisory Committee since 2009; Executive Director Buckeye Amputees for Action; Chief Advocate for Ohio representing the Amputee Coalition of America; Appointed to the Governor’s Council People with Disabilities since 2012; 2009 recipient of the Mildred Henderson Community Service Award; and his most valued award was being inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame in 2010. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Lynn; children Julie (Hanif) Phelps; Rob (Leigh) Thurman; grandchildren: Alisha; Erica, Elizabeth, Jackson, and Evan; great grandson, Bentley; sisters and brothers-in-law, Denise and Matthew Clarke, Greg and Carol Browning, Ray and Tammy Rennard, and Brian Rennard; and nieces and nephews, Jeremiah and Ashley Clarke. Predeceased by parents Orval and Erma Thurman.
