Robert Lewis Tucker, age 76, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away surrounded by his loving family on May 26, 2025. Born on April 12, 1949, in Athens, Ohio, Bob was a proud Vietnam War veteran, devoted family man, and lifelong outdoorsman, Bob lived a life defined by service, love, laughter and simple joys.
Bob attended school in the Groveport School District and later answered the call to serve his country with honor as a proud member of the United States Army as a Combat Engineer, during the Vietnam War. Bob was a retired roofer from the Columbus Public Schools and Roofers Local #86. He was a member of VFW #3426, AMVETS #1312, American Legion #144. He carried the strength, humility, and quiet resilience of a soldier throughout his life.
Bob built a life rooted in love for his family. He was a dedicated husband, caring father, proud grandfather and great grandfather. Bob is survived in death by his wife Elizabeth A. Tucker, his five children, Robert L. Tucker II (Christine), William F. Tucker (Mary), Heather J. Tucker, Megan E. Tucker, and Michael J. Tucker (Cassie). Grandchildren, Cora, Wayne, Wyatt, and Morgan. Great grandchildren, Lucy and Archie. Sister, Patricia A. Spink (Bill), brother William L. Tucker, sister in law Margaret M. Morbitzer (Bill Pool) , brother in law Joe A. Morbitzer (Gina) and special friend Mike Carbaugh. Bob leaves behind many, many friends from all throughout his life.
Bob is preceded in death by his mother, Opal Champlain, father, William Tucker, sister, Barbara (Sis) Whitlach, and sister-in-law, Sandy Tucker. His family was his world, and nothing made him prouder than gathering everyone for a backyard barbecue, fishing in his son’s pond, swapping stories, and sharing a laugh.
An avid fisherman and hunter, Bob found peace in nature’s stillness. Whether it was casting a line at dawn, sitting quietly in a deer stand, or enjoying a good fire, the outdoors was his sanctuary. Sitting in front of the fireplace in his garage was often where he could be found. It was clear that the woods and the water were where he found the most peace and felt closest to God.
A true country soul, Bob had a deep love for classic country music—especially the voice of George Jones. His favorite songs played often in the background of his life and blaring from his red truck, and no one could sing along with “He Stopped Loving Her Today” quite like him.
Bob leaves behind a legacy of strength, loyalty, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in every funny memory, silly made up song, crazy story retold from years past, and every old country tune played loud.
A Graveside Service with military honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Sunday July 6th at Obetz Cemetery, 4455 Groveport Rd., Obetz, Ohio, 43207. Per Bob’s request, there will be no viewing. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday August 9th at the home of Bill & Mary Tucker, 25863 Moccasin Rd, Laurelville, OH 43135. The family invites everyone to come and share a story about Bob with them.
