

Ruth Helen (Henry) Benedict, 98, passed away quietly at Wesley Ridge Care Center January 17, 2013. Ruth, the 2nd child of John and Meta (Adam) Henry, was born December 6, 1914 and grew up on Lathrop Street in what is now German Village. She and Paul, her husband of 68 years, were longtime Bexley residents where they raised their three children Barbara (Peterson of Canton, Georgia), Nancy (George) Mills of Pickerington and Stephen (Eileen) of Pataskala. Paul and Ruth were married and active in the Central Community Church on East Mound Street in Columbus which later became Scottwood Community Church. Ruth was employed for 25 years by the Columbus Public Schools and worked at Barrett Middle School for 25 years. Preceded in death by husband Paul, brother Howard Henry and sister Edith Neff, Ruth is survived by her children and by her sister Margaret “Peggy” Poenisch of Pickerington, Ohio and grandchildren, Jodi McConnell of Ballground, GA and Emilie (Robert) Viola of Canal Winchester as well as great grandchildren Katharyn, Patrick, Sophia, and Josephine. Family will receive friends Sunday, January 20, 2013 from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm at the Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, OH where funeral service will be held on Monday 10:30 am with Rev. Robert Kimes, officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
