

Sara Jean Newman Lucktenberg, age 87, died peacefully Thursday, May 21, 2015. Jean was born on the family farm in Twin Township, Ross County, Ohio on April 2, 1928, to Robert W. and Sallie Shotts Newman, and was the youngest of 5 children. Jean graduated from Twin High School as class valedictorian. She earned a bachelor of science in Nursing (1950) and a master of Arts Education (1983) from The Ohio State University. Jean worked in various positions in nursing for more than 40 years, retiring as a school nurse from the Columbus Public Schools. On May 2, 1953, she married William Lucktenberg who predeceased her in 1999. Jean was a life member of the OSU Alumni Assoc., member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a Life Master bridge player. At the age of 53 she started playing golf and was a charter member of the retired school nurses golf group. Much fun was had at semi-annual outings to Lake Erie for many years. Jean also enjoyed playing board games with family, reading voraciously and traveling. She was a lifelong learner. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother Robert E. (Opal); sisters Virginia (Dr. Clarence) Ash, Marjorie (James) Phillips, and brother-in law Dr. George Lucktenberg. She is survived by 3 children: Janet (Bobby Cordova) and Tom Lucktenberg of Columbus, and Paul (Celeste) Lucktenberg of Edina, MN. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren: Chelsea of Los Angeles, Jonathan and Lindsay of Edina, MN, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8pm Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at the Schoedinger Midtown Chapel, 229 E. State St., Columbus, OH where a funeral will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, May 27, 2015. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
