

Scott Rochelle Hempstead, age 88, of Whitehall, Ohio passed away January 18, 2012. He was born October 16, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Scott Rochelle and Carrie (Reeves) Hempstead. Scott graduated from Columbus East High School, class of 1941. He then enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard where he served during WWII, including the invasion of Okinawa. Following his military service, Scott had a fulfilling career as a Columbus firefighter. The next chapter in his life took him to Hollywood, California where he was a set painter for familiar shows including Hogan’s Heroes, Andy Griffith Show, Gomer Pyle, Gilligan’s Island, I Dream of Jeannie, the Flying Nun and the movie Camelot with Richard Harris. He enjoyed friendships with Henry Fonda, Richard Crenna and Sally Field, among others. He was a 60 year Mason, member of the Ralph Rickley Lodge F&AM. Scott is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Diane; children, Scott, Jr., Susan, Daniel and Edward Hempstead; also Steve, David and Rebecca; granddaughter, Brittany and her sister, Courtney; and his faithful friend Bubba. Family will receive friends 4-7pm Friday, January 20, 2012 at Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, OH 43232 where services will be held at 10am Saturday; Andrew Hoover, Celebrant; interment Glen Rest Memorial Estate.
