He is preceded in death by his parents, Fredolf and Martha Liddell, his grandchildren, Sara Liddell, Joshua Buda, Eric Liddell and Daniel Buda.
Spending most of his youth in Galion Ohio, he was active in the church and the Boy Scouts, attaining Eagle Scout designation. His father, being a music teacher, instilled in him an appreciation of music and a skill to play an assortment of instruments. He used this talent to play whatever instrument was needed for the Galion and New Concord High School Bands. He attended Muskingum College and the Ohio State University. At Muskingum he met the love of his life, Muerl. They married in 1955, and began to start a family. In 1964 he joined State Farm Insurance as a claims adjuster, progressing to Claims Superintendent before establishing his own State Farm Agency in 1972. His agency served Worthington and the greater Columbus area until his retirement in 1996.
Throughout Sherman’s adult life he was an avid boater, spending much of his summer free time with family and friends boating on Lake Erie. He was also an incredible downhill skier. He taught each of his children to ski and to boat. The passion for these sports continues thru the family to the next generation. Sherman spent a great deal of time challenging himself on various slopes throughout the United States but his favorite slopes were in Colorado. Another pastime he enjoyed was fishing. As he got older, Sherman became an accomplished fly fisherman. Along the way he took up target shooting, passing along that ability and love to his grandsons. With retirement, he traveled extensively with his wife and could talk for hours about various adventures. He especially enjoyed traveling in their motor home.
His love of the Church and his belief in God was strong throughout his life. He was an elder in Highlands Presbyterian Church and had been active in the church council and the choir at Lord of Life Lutheran Church.
A memorial service will be held at Highlands Presbyterian Church, on Saturday September 17th at 2:30 pm. Family invites friends to stay and visit with them immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Muskingum University student aid fund (163 Storemont Street, New Concord OH 43762) or Highlands Presbyterian Church (6909 Smoky Row Road, Columbus OH 43235) in Sherman’s honor.
